The Silver Linings Playbook - Matthew Quick
I’m a bit sad about this. I only stumbled upon The Silver Linings Playbook a couple of months ago (I know, shame on me), and suddenly Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence are all over it!
The book is instantly lovable. Recently released from a mental institution after catching his wife in the shower with a history teacher, Pat is running, taking his meds, seeing his therapist, watching the game with his brother and going for raison bran at the diner with Tiffany (she likes dancing). He’s not really talking to his dad and he kinda freaks out when a certain song comes on the radio, but apart from that he’s fine. He’s just staying positive, reading library books and becoming a better person for Nicky (that’s his wife by the way, who has a restraining order against him).
The film, however, makes everything a lot more shouty and much less layered.
We did have amazing barbequed chicken and smoked-apple coleslaw burgers in Brixton Village before seeing it though. Maybe I need to re-watch it and forget there was ever a book at all… sob.
